My Fabulous Weekend: Feminism Conference, New Bathroom Set & Buying Myself Flowers

Hey Loves!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and took some time for yourself to relax. I’m finding as I get older that it is important to take a moment or more (if you can) to just relax. It is easier said than done.

Dr. Meredith ClarkThis weekend started on a Friday for me. I attended the Online Feminism Conference hosted by the Clayman Institute on Stanford’s Campus. I attended this conference because the editor of my upcoming book, Dr. Meredith Clark was speaking about her dissertation on Black Twitter.

I don’t at this point label myself as a feminist, however, I loved the event, meeting new people, and hearing the stories of some of these amazing women who are doing what they love everyday despite the many threats that they receive. Can you believe that just for writing their opinions or trying to change the way women and/or minorities are treated that they receive death threats? This blew my mind.

When I asked Feminista Jones, who describers herself as a post-modern, sex-positive, Black feminist woman, why she continues in spite of these threats, she said, “…We have to change the world. Gotta keep going!” Wow these were the type of women that I was listening to speak at the conference. Women who are inspiring and passionate about what they do. They are fighting for us. For the issues that matter. For the basic right to be a woman with an opinion…a voice.

Other speakers included Emily May Co-Founder and Executive Director of HollaBack a company started to help end Street harassment and Paula J. Giddings author of When and Where I Enter: The Impact of Black Women on Race and Sex in Americaand In Search of Sisterhood.

I would highly recommend that you attend this event next year!

IMG_2830I was so exhausted from the conference and all the knowledge that was being shared. After the conference was over, I went home and slept like a baby. I tried a new breakfast spot with Meredith on Saturday morning and then off to a meeting. My favorite part of Saturday was going to Bed Bath & Beyond. I went in to find more pieces to a bathroom set I purchased two years ago. But sadly they no longer had the set. But I found an amazing new set that was along the same lines and I decided to redo my bathroom.

I love anything girlie and fashion forward. As you can imagine, I love sitting in my bathroom more than I did before. The set is so pretty and the colors are more sophisticated than my last bathroom set. Well that’s what I’m telling myself to justify redoing the whole bathroom. 🙂

On Sunday, I went to see my sorority sister who just lost her grandfather. We ended upIMG_2847 going to run errands at Costco and Cost Plus World Market and when we came across the flower section at Costco, I couldn’t resist. I’ve been saying for months that I am going to start buying myself flowers weekly. Flowers are so beautiful and they brighten up any room and any mood. These AMAZING blue flowers started calling out to me. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bouquet of blue flowers. I had to have them. Now these flowers are brightening up my desk and making my home so beautifully fragrant. It reminded me to be thankful for beauty both subtle and loud.

I challenge each of you this week to buy yourself some flowers. Tag us on IG #thedivainc #loveyourself. XOXOXO
