The Journey to Faith

“For we walk by faith and not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
In the midst of this economic recession, I have found a richness of spirit I’ve never known. I spend more time counting my blessings than I  do counting pennies. I’m in a very happy place right now. But I didn’t happen upon this treasure overnight, and the path certainly wasn’t easy.
I lost a lot of sleep last year. What little sleep I did get was restless and filled with nightmares. Last year newspaper industry woes finally caught up with the newspaper where I was working. The newspaper shrank. There were fewer pages and smaller sections. Bureaus closed and revenues dwindled. Reporters were furloughed and salaries were cut.
In December 2009, I accepted a voluntary buyout from my employer. My decision dumbfounded some of my coworkers and colleagues. I had chosen to walk away from it all, without a concrete plan ahead of me.
But what they didn’t know—and perhaps didn’t understand—was that I had made a conscious decision to follow the lead of the Lord.
That decision marked the beginning of what I believe is a lifelong journey into faith.
He took my outstretched hands that had been flailing about in the uncertainty of the world. And he hasn’t let them go. He assured me through word and through deed that He would keep me and provide for me. And he hasn’t failed me yet. He told me to be still and He would fight my battles. And he has only just begun.

  1. Rahkia,
Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world! You are being guided down the pathway of God's perfect will for your life. Why? Because you are, for once in your life, not trying to tell God what to do by being in control. It's walking with the blindfold on that gets us where we need (and want) to go. Also, I just learned that another way to obtain God's perfect will is to know what His promises are and bring them to His rememberance. And, the best thing is that the answers to his promises are yes and Amen!
Great piece! Keep up the good work!

  2. It is amazing the type of encouragement we can receive if we are honest with ourselves and others. I love it! Even in my most discouraging moments I know that I will make it because I have friends who are living through the same situations I am facing. Many Blessings Rahkia and thanks for contributing to The Diva Diaries blog! XOXOXO,

  3. Thanks for the feedback– to quote a Negro spiritual, "I know I been changed!" In all honestly, the person I am now is totally different from the person I was a year ago. And that's because of faith.

  4. I agree. I've learned so much about myself through the experiences I've had through the last year and a half and I agree it is because of faith. I still struggle and get discouraged but I make it through holding on to God's promises.
