I absolutely adore social media. Because I use it for business (and a bit of fun), I always find cool stuff that I would not have otherwise known about. This book, Fashionpedia The Visual Dictionary of Fashion Design, popped up in my feed and after reading about it I knew I had to buy it and share it with you.
This is more of a reference book not a book that you read from cover to cover and I believe every fashion + lifestyle blogger should have this in her/his library.
Fashionpedia gives a short history of fashion at the beginning and then goes into more detail on apparel, textiles, manufacturing and more. Think of this as your fashion vocabulary bible. You don’t have to store all of those terms in your head and you can refer to this book when writing articles so that you can speak to the fashions you want to represent. *High five to all of my fashion bloggers.* This is going to help so much. I can stop calling something a thingamabob when I do not know the name of it. 🙂 All I have to do now, is look it up in Fashionpedia.
Fashionpedia got its start on Kickstarter in 2016. I’m not sure how I am just finding out about it, but I am grateful that I know about it now. For anyone who is in fashion, fashion blogging or who just loves a well-thought reference book, this is it!
I’m a very visual person so I love the fact that it has drawings alongside the types of clothing, apparel and accessories it describes. This is one of the most thorough and easy to understand reference books in fashion that I have ever laid my eyes on. I cannot wait to dig into it further.
I was also grateful that in the hair section it was very inclusive listing hair styles such as Afros, Dreadlocks and the Hi-top Fade. The author is a brand called Fashionary and they also sell fashion sketchbooks, other reference books, and notebooks in addition to Fashionpedia.
Scoot over to Amazon and pick up your copy of this must-have fashion bible. Even if you are a pro in fashion vocabulary, this will be a great reference book for you.
