Beginner DIY Ornament with Cricut

It’s Holiday time! Which means Holiday projects galore! The Holiday season is my FAVORITE time of the year. I’ve been having so much more fun this year because I am creating so many crafts that I adore. This tutorial is another one of the AMAZINGLY fun Cricut tutorials I’ve shown you this year. I’ve really concentrated on beginner tutorials this year because so many of you were concerned about the Cricut’s ease of use. As you can see, it is so EASY to set up and get started. You can check out some of my previous video tutorials here. For this tutorial, I’m creating a DIY Christmas Ornament using Cricut Images, Cricut Faux Leather, and Cricut Card stock to show you just how simple it is to create fun projects using Cricut.

What you will need:

A Cricut Machine
Cricut Design Space
Cricut Faux Leather Woodgrain – one 12×12 sheet
Cricut Cardstock 12×12, Holiday Sampler – one 12×12 sheet
A Glue Gun (Optional)
Embellishments – Buttons (Optional)
Liquid Glue (Tombow)
String

If you want to skip the set up process, I have included a link to the snowflake ornament in Design Space here.

1. Open Cricut Design Space and start a new project (+ button)

2. Click on Images 3. In the search bar (top right) type in Snowflake 4. Locate the Snowflake you want to use

5. Resize the Snowflake (In this case, I made it to almost fit the 12×12 canvas)

6. Ungroup the Snowflake (this is optional. For this project I wanted only the pink part of the Snowflake for the back and front.)

This is how it will look with the background removed. 7. Click the make it button on the top right corner of Cricut Design Space.

8. Click “Continue” (You will do this twice or you can adjust the quantity to 2 and click apply on the top left of the screen.)

9. Load the Faux Leather and follow the prompts on the screen. Be sure to adjust the nob to “Custom” and the paper type to Faux Leather.

10. Once Cricut is done cutting, weed your Snowflake

This is the front of the Snowflake once it has been weeded

11. Repeat steps 8-10 for the back of the Snowflake

Here is what the back and front of the Snowflake looks like once it has been cut and weeded. Now you will need your glue gun and liquid glue of chose. Shown here is the Tombow dual tip liquid glue.

12. Glue the string on to the top of the Snowflake using one drop of glue with the glue gun

13. Use the Tombow Glue to coat the back of the front (the Cricut Faux Leather)

14. Stick the back (the red card stock) to the back of the Cricut Faux Leather

Now you are ready for the optional embellishments

15. Add the optional embellishments. (I chose to use some buttons that I had to give the faux leather Snowflake a unique look.)

Here are three different versions of the Snowflake ornament. Far left: is using a faux fur/suede material and the one on the far right is using Cricut Foil Cardstock.

These will dry quickly and be ready for you to hang on your tree or anywhere that you need a little holiday decoration.   Thank you and Yes it is! I’m trying to think of the materials in a different way and not use them for something they would typically be used for. So this was a fun experiment that turned out better than I imagined. And I love the touch the buttons added to the ornament. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by. XOXOXO
